THE ART OF ENTERTAINING AT THE MANOIR DE SARRON
"Before opening these guestrooms in 2006, I was an interior decorator. My job entailed passing on ideas to people on how to entertain, receive guests, create an atmosphere of comfort, marry up warm colours to essentially make you feel at home. My husband and I bought this property in the old town of Pont-Sainte-Maxence, and I wanted to apply my decorating skills to my guesthouse, to share this sense of well-being that is instilled when you sit next to the old stonework and get swept away by the smells, the colours and the atmosphere in the garden or by the crackling fireplace.
We also want our guestrooms to be like spare rooms where friends might stay. Meeting our guests is a touching experience. We don't just invite our guests to spend the night here; we let them into our lives for the time of their stay. It's a constant exchange of how we live, recipes, ideas for decoration. In summer, for instance, we make jam together, which the older folk love just as much as the children do! When Christmas is approaching, we turn our hands to making foie gras, or else a Christmas wreath with pinecones that we collect from the forests. I love to wander round the flea markets in the region to hunt out old pieces of furniture to restore with my guests, take them on a tour of my garden, dry hydrangeas ready for creating colourful bouquets in wintertime. I just want people to treat our home like their own!"
