PICARD, A LANGUAGE THAT'S ALIVE AND WELL

"I'm a member of a band called Achteure. We try to use Picard words as much as possible, especially in those areas where it's no longer spoken very much, in Pays de Bray for example, but the words of many of our songs deal with topical issues. We’ve performed in Belgium and even Canada. It’s probably this refusal to hang on to the past that has made our group, and in another domain, the Picard translations of comic books like Asterix and Tintin, so successful. Now the Picard tongue can speak about Internet and globalisation, comic strips and multimedia. The ‘Picarditude’ is on the move!"
