HENSON POLOCROSSE FRANCE
"Polocrosse is far less elitist than Polo! Players are only allowed to play one horse. The sport is played with two teams of three players on an area the size of a football pitch, divided into three parts. The riders hold a racquet fitted with a net to catch a latex ball and throw it into the goals. A match comprises six or eight chukkas (eight minutes per chukka). Players pick up the
ball from the ground and ride with it. They throw it to the other players of the team who,
preferably, catch it in midair and try to score a goal. Henson Polocrosse is a collective project. By developing Equilibre 2, a European project to promote horses and equestrian tourism, we have had the opportunity to meet specialists, passionate about this sport, and Jason Burbridge in particular, an international trainer and captain of the English team. These contacts made it possible for us, in 2004, to get to know this sport, and then to create these teams, the only ones in France to date. I think that our initiative will create real vocations. Lots of clubs are contacting us to learn this sport, which was little known before."
