“I try to carry out my work as a farmer intelligently by being open to the outside world. With the Chambres d’Hôtes à la Ferme (‘Farm Guesthouses’) network, I’ve realised the absolute necessity of protecting nature. Visitors come because the countryside is beautiful. This countryside has been shaped by farmers and it’s also up to us to maintain and improve it. Farmers can’t just produce raw materials - they’re responsible for their land and therefore the countryside.
I plant grass-covered strips in my fields, I provide shelter for game and I replant local plant species. In essence, I recreate the natural balance and I participate in maintaining biodiversity. What’s more, with the production of ‘tapis fleuris’, a new process that enables towns to buy flat strips of flowers ready to plant, and working to ensure beauty in the landscapes of our countryside, I also help brighten up urban areas. It’s something I’m very proud of!”
