WEEK-END AMONG FRIENDS: SAND YACHTING ON THE PICARDY COAST
Destination : Picardy Coast - Bay of Somme
The wide open spaces, between the Bay of Somme and Marquenterre
At low tide, the English Channel reveals vast sandy beaches in Fort-Mahon and Quend, a real playing field for sand yachting lovers.
It’s an environmentally-friendly way of discovering the Picardy coastline. A sport that is open to everyone: beginners in search of oxygenation, or experienced sand yachters seeking freedom and thrills.
Lionel Boone, a passionate sand yachting instructor for over twenty years, will teach you how to take your new three-wheel sand yachting companion in hand. One hour is enough to learn the basics of piloting… and then you’re off for two hours of discovery in the wide open spaces of Picardy.
“You many have walked along the beach many times over the years, but nothing will be the same on a sand yacht. You will experience the beach differently; learn to read the nature of the ground, pay attention to colours. That is the true pleasure of the senses…”
Only the sound of the sea, the wind in your sail and the numerous birds (from the nearby Marquenterre Park) will disturb the silence and feeling of peace and harmony with nature that such a ride can provide.
Beginner’s course in sand yachting (3hrs): approximately €40
Our greatest asset is space. We have that incredible feeling that we can always go further and further
“I still take as much pleasure in showing visitors how to sand yacht and accompanying them on rides on the Bay of Somme or the Bay of Authie. The sand yacht is an extraordinary way of exploring the coast. Sand yachting is a way of encountering unique environments and atmospheres. On a sand yacht, you are at one with the elements. Sand yachting allows you to be in direct contact with nature. Early in the morning, when the beach is empty, I often gaze at the shadows of the dunes that die away on the sand. It’s magical.”
