DISCOVER THE SEALS OF THE BAIE DE SOMME
Destination : Picardy Coast - Bay of Somme
Interview with Emmanuel of Promenade en Baie 'Here we are at the southern entrance of the Somme bay. With the help of binoculars, we can observe seals lying peacefully on the sand, at a bend in the channel. This might be surprising for a lot of people, but the Baie de Somme is home to France’s largest colony of seals, even if there is not an ice floe to be seen. In 2006, no less than 165 seals congregated on the exposed sand banks, at low tide. So, if you have never seen seals in the wild, or you wish to learn about these amazing animals, this is the perfect opportunity.'
So as not to disturb the seals, we always remain at least 700m from the colony.
The trip involves a 4-km walk across the sands.
A fun walk: children are welcome on the excursion!
During the walk, you are likely to spot avocets, spoon-bills, and sandpipers in flight…
Your guide, Emmanuel, will be happy to help you prepare for the excursion.
We recommend: that you wear wellington boots and take a change of clothes
