Villes et villages fleuris (Flowered Towns and Villages)

Over the last 40 years, the ‘Villes et Villages Fleuris’ label has become indicative of a true popular phenomenon, both with councillors and the general public.
Today, 12,000 towns and villages, or nearly a third of all French communes, present their entries at the Villes et Villages Fleuris competition.
The label has been awarded to 2,806 of them and 196 have ‘won’ the 4 Flowers. In Picardie, 67 communes enjoy the Villes et Villages Fleuris de France label.

Every year, the jury assesses and evaluates the work of communes based on two groups of criteria:

• The plant content of the commune, including trees, shrubs and, of course, flowers (55% of the final mark).
• The surroundings of the commune, including respect for the environment, the embellishment of buildings, support activities and the level of resident participation in flower-keeping (45% of the final mark).

The league table reflects the previous year’s standings, since inspections are conducted during the summer and the national results are announced at the beginning of the following year.
Some communes are well-known major towns, while others are small villages nestled in the depths of the Picardian countryside. Whatever the case, you will be won over by their charm.
